Biography:
Gabriela Bliss is a classically trained flutist who performs works ranging from the Baroque period to contemporary music. Gabriela currently resides in Fort Collins, CO where she obtained her Master’s Degree in Flute performance from Colorado State University. While at CSU, Gabriela performed with the University’s Symphony Orchestra as co-principal flutist, as well as the Wind Symphony as a section flutist and piccolo, and Opera as principal flutist for Mozart’s Idomeneo and Marriage of Figaro, and second flutist for Puccini’s Gianni Schicci and Suor Angelica. As an avid performer, Gabriela has performed world premieres, with her most recent being Ben Justis’s Conversation Five for marimba and flute.
While residing in Flagstaff, AZ, Gabriela performed as a section flutist and piccolo with Northern Arizona University’s Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band. Gabriela also performed with chamber ensemble groups within the University, as well as having performed for church services in Sedona, AZ. During her time in Flagstaff, Gabriela formed a flute studio for private lessons, as well as volunteered at an elementary school to help beginning flute students. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Flute performance from Northern Arizona University where her primary teacher was Dr. Emily McKay.
Moving to Denver after graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree, Gabriela coached the flute members of the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble at the Denver School of the Arts for the 2013-2014 school year. Gabriela also coached the flute members of Adams City High School band in the Spring semester of 2014.
Gabriela has traveled to Shenyang, China in 2012 for a Music and Culture Workshop. While at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Gabriela was exposed to the traditional, ethnic music and instruments of China. In 2015, Gabriela traveled to Arcidoso, Italy for the InterHarmony Music Festival, where she performed in chamber ensembles and studied with musicians from around the world.
Gabriela has studied with Michelle Stanley, Cathy Peterson, Emily McKay, and Andrea Graves. She has also had masterclasses with Marco Granados and Eva Amsler.
During her free time, Gabriela enjoys hiking around the Denver and Fort Collins areas.
