
Open to students grades 9-12. The Crimson Regiment Marching Band is earning a reputation for Symphonic Band quality sounds on the marching field. To maintain this tradition of success requires a high degree of dedication, effort, and pride on the part of each person involved. Approximately fifteen staff instructors work collectively to give students the best musical experience possible.
Skills acquired in marching band help prepare students for the rigors and stamina of concert ensembles that follow the marching season. Preparation and performance of the world's finest music will be covered. Testing of drill and music will help students in this ensemble in preparing for successful participation in all band ensembles offered at Loveland High School.
All athletes participating in the band program are encouraged to audition for the Crimson Regiment Marching Band. Cooperation and flexibility with all activities and sports is a priority to the directors and staff of the marching band.

The Loveland High School band program offers three different concert groups, the Concert Band, which runs year-round and the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony, which run after marching season ends. Students are placed into their group by an audition conducted by music professionals outside of the LHS band program. The Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony annually attend concert band festivals throughout Colorado, and have earned a reputation for exceptional scores at these.
All groups perform at LHS band concerts, and the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony perform in a special concert conducted at the end of their annual symphonic band camp.

- further develop technical skills and sight reading techniques
- develop aural sensitivity specific to intonation, balance, blend, and tonal beauty
- perform appropriate music literature for their ability level
- attend all scheduled performances
- includes marching in the fall

The Loveland High School Jazz program is divided into two groups, Jazz Ensemble I and Jazz Ensemble II.
Jazz II is open to students in grades 9-12. This class will work on both developing skills acquired in middle school and beginning improvisation. Jazz is a true American art form that helps students to gain confidence in playing through ensemble performance and soloing (improvisation). Advancement and application of basic skills such as music notation and recognition, tone production, rhythmic proficiency, intonation, technical ability, sight reading, improvisation, as well as preparation and performances of the finest beginning to intermediate jazz ensemble music will be covered. Weekly testing will help students in this ensemble in preparing for successful participation in Jazz Ensemble I.
Jazz I is the premier Jazz Ensemble of the Loveland High School Band Program. This prestigious ensemble has earned a reputation for musical excellence in the state of Colorado and is fast becoming one of the top jazz ensembles in the state. This advanced level class focuses on mastery of individual and ensemble playing skills and an added emphasis on performance. Advanced Jazz Ensemble travels throughout the state and the country performing for thousands of people yearly. Preparation and performance of the finest grade II, III, IV, V, and VI literature will be covered. Performance evaluations and self-assessments help students in this ensemble in preparing for successful participation in community, college, and professional groups.

In Jazz Ensemble II Students will:
- demonstrate knowledge of basic jazz theory, including scales and chords
- perform articulations appropriate to a variety of jazz styles
- develop basic improvisation skills
- perform appropriate literature for their ability level

Loveland High School has earned the reputation of having a powerful percussion program, and that tradition has only strengthened recently. Percussionists at Loveland High School can be involved in the marching season drumline, as well as Winter Percussion and concert percussion.
Winter Percussion is an extra-curricular activity designed to challenge and enable percussionists to expand their skills in mallets, concert percussion and marching percussion. Winter Percussion ensemble begins after marching season has ended. This ensemble will perform at concerts, contests, and various local activities. Membership in Winter Percussion Ensemble may at any time be limited to students whose main instrument is percussion.

Open to all students in grades 9-12, membership in the Crimson Regiment Color Guard is by audition only. This performance group combines the elements of dance and movement in coordinated effort with the band. Students will learn the basics of flag, rifle, and saber work, as well as dance and body movement. The color guard will perform with the Crimson Regiment during all practices and performances during the marching seasons. Members are expected to attend all extra rehearsals.
The Loveland High School Winter Guard is an extra-curricular activity provided by the Loveland Band Boosters. Members will expand their experience from marching season and perform at competitions throughout the state. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances.

Students are encouraged to participate in various small ensembles. Emphasis will be on one student to a part, and participation in solo and ensemble contest will be one of many public performance options. These ensembles are extra-curricular and rehearse and perform outside of school hours. Small ensembles typically take place during the school year.
