Concert Performance Groups
Prerequisite: Successful completion (grade of C- or better for all semesters) in previous band ensembles (Marching Band, Symphonic Band or Wind Symphony), or instructor approval.
In addition to the preceding, all students must pass a successful live audition as it relates to the standards on the audition rubric.
Meeting Time: Second Semester
Class Description: This is the premier Symphonic Band of the Loveland High School Band Program. This prestigious ensemble has earned a reputation for musical excellence in the state of Colorado and is fast becoming one of the top ensembles in the state. This advanced level class focuses on mastery of individual and ensemble playing skills and an added emphasis on performance. This ensemble will play literature at grade V (advanced high school) and VI (College) levels. Performance evaluations and self-assessments help students in this ensemble in preparing for successful participation in community, college and professional groups. This ensemble is typically comprised of upper classmen, advanced sophomores and exceptional freshmen.
Course Requirements: Members of this ensemble are required to perform on several concert programs, concert festivals, contests and trips. This entails attending all scheduled zero period rehearsals and evening rehearsals. All students must also attend the annual Symphonic Band Camp held in the third quarter of the school year.

Description: This intermediate/advanced level class focuses on mastery of individual and ensemble playing skills. This ensemble will play literature at grade IV (average high school) and V (advanced high school) levels. Playing tests, performance evaluations and self-assessments help students in this ensemble in preparing for successful participation in Wind Symphony. This ensemble may be comprised of upperclassmen, sophomores and advanced freshman.
Course Requirements: Members of this ensemble are required to perform on several concert programs, concert festivals, contests and trips. Students of Symphonic Band are required to register for the Symphonic Band zero periods. This entails attending all zero period rehearsals. All students must also attend the annual Symphonic Band Camp held in the third quarter of the school year.
Prerequisite: None
Class Description: Open to all students 9-12. This class will concentrate on developing skills acquired in middle school and in teaching beginning instrumentalists’ fundamental playing skills. Advancement and application of basic skills such as music notation and recognition, tone production, rhythmic proficiency, intonation, technical ability, sight reading, as well as preparation and performances of grade II and III band literature will be covered.
Course Requirements: This ensemble will perform on several concert programs.
Crimson Regiment Marching Band
Prerequisite: Successful completion (grade of C- or better for all semesters) in previous band ensembles (Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony), or instructor approval.
Co-requisite: Students must also be registered for Symphonic Band in order to register for Marching Band.
Meeting Time: Block 4 and 8, first semester
Class Description: Open to students in grades 9-12. The Crimson Regiment Marching Band has earned a reputation for Symphonic Band quality sounds on the marching field. To maintain this tradition of success requires a high degree of dedication, effort and pride on the part of each person involved. Approximately fifteen staff instructors work collectively to give students the best musical experience possible. Skills acquired in marching band help prepare students for the rigors and stamina of concert ensembles that follow the marching season. Preparation and performance of the world’s finest music will be covered. Testing of drill and music will help students in this ensemble in preparing for successful participation in all band ensembles offered at Loveland High School. All athletes participating in the band program are encouraged to audition for the Crimson Regiment Marching Band. Cooperation and flexibility with all activities and sports is a priority to the directors and staff of the marching band.
Course Requirements: Members of this ensemble are required to perform at varsity football games, contests, out-of-state trips and various local activities. Students of Marching Band are required to be
registered for the Symphonic Band zero periods and attend zero period rehearsals the first nine weeks of the school year or the end of the competitive season. All members enrolled in the Crimson Regiment
Marching Band are expected to attend the summer band camp.
Band camp is an essential team building activity in which students will not only learn the basics of marching and music; they will also learn about each other and the tremendous amount of dedication and cooperation it takes to have a superior marching band. The camaraderie and friendships made in camp will set the tone for the entire school year.
The district mandated class fees pays for only a fraction or the true cost of the band program. A fee schedule and financial policy for marching band was handed out at the April Parent’s Meeting. Please ask for copies if you have not received them.
Marching Band is a very physical activity. In order to march and play an eight-minute show takes a tremendous amount of physical endurance. Students will be expected to condition on their own and in rehearsal. Daily stretching and running will be part of the marching band’s rehearsal routine.
Color Guard
Co-requisite: Students must register for Marching Band and Symphonic Band for the first semester in order to be a member of the Color Guard.
Meeting Time: Block 4 and 8, first semester
Description: Open to all students in grades 9-12. Membership in the Crimson Regiment Color Guard is by audition only. This performance group combines the elements of dance and movement in coordinated effort with the band. Students will learn the basics of flag, rifle and saber work, as well as dance and body movement. The color guard will perform with the Crimson Regiment during all practices and performances during the marching season. Members are expected to attend all extra rehearsals.
Guard members are members of the marching band and have the same fees. See Crimson Regiment Marching Band Class Description
Guard members will be expected to pay for half of their uniform, warm-ups, the cost of shoes, and the flag bag.
Winter Guard
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of fall color guard or instructor approval. In addition to the preceding, all students must pass a successful live audition as it relates to the standards on the
audition rubric.
Description: The Loveland High School Winter Guard is an extra-curricular activity provided by the Loveland Band Boosters. All members of the Winter Guard will be expected to pay for the full cost
of their uniform, shoes and a participation fee. Members will also be required to fund raise regularly at band booster sponsored Ranch Concessions. Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and
performances.
